CK: Question 2

2. Let us assume a fully grown, completely healthy Clydesdale horse has his hooves shackled to the ground while his head is held in place with thick rope. He is conscious and standing upright, but completely immobile. And let us assume that--for some reason--every political prisoner on earth (as cited by Amnesty International) will be released from captivity if you can kick this horse to death in less than twenty minutes. You are allowed to wear steel-toed boots.

Would you attempt to do this?

2. I suppose I would want no one to live in prison, but how do I know these people aren't guilty of the crimes and need to be placed in prison? The pain of one horse doesn't bother me so much to release so many people in miserable captivity, assuming they can get on with their lives as normal, not get put back into prison immediately after departure. Plus, if these people knew I did it, then I could get commended for it, and thats pretty much fame and money in the bag for me.
I'd probably bring anaesthetics or morphine for the horse though. I'm humane.

Edgar Allen Poe

Awesome writer. Heres all of his works online!

Also added to the comprehensive list.

1001 Arabian Nights

It has pretty much everything Arabian Nights related, and online, for free. I added this to my comprehensive links and removed the old one. Story Of King Shahryar and His Brother (under Richard Burton Arabian Nights (1982-84) page 1 on the site, or that link)is the original story, but definitely a hard read. If you want the more comprehensible one, choose the link below (but don't follow anything else on the site unless you know what you're getting into lol).

ORIGINAL POST:

I heard this intriguing story a long time ago, and I repeat it (in abridged form) every now and then for the moral. I'll let you decide what the moral is.

Here is the story: 1001 Arabian Nights. (abridged...a lot) This is the best version I could find with a few of the many stories in plain english.

It is a story of Persian decent, and contains many stories within the story, which is why its so interesting. If you read one, you'll get caught up in all of them, like I did. Don't go ruining it by checking the wikipedia page or anything now - though you might want to anyway to crosscheck it with the link.

I will also add more of Scheherazade's (read it and you'll know who I'm talking about) stories as I find them and find them interesting. Half of them are movies now.

I don't believe there is any online source with all of the stories, but you can buy the whole thing on amazon if you want. 960 pages. Probably worth it.

Additions

I'll probably be adding and moving stuff around on my blog for a while.

I've added a "Comprehensive Things to Do" links on right side of my blog. Its sites that I visit every so often if I'm bored for entertaining reads or videos. If there are reoccurring sites featured on my blog, they'll probably be on that list.

What I added so far;

Drew Curtis' FARK - Its where I get all of my odd news stories. It's a site where people post stories from all over the world that are especially cool, funny, stupid, weird etc.

Cracked - A comedy article and video site that updates daily. This is the source of my knowledge lol. (I say lol because its kind of, but not really. Since its a comedy site I wouldn't have any credibility if I said that it was my source of knowledge. But I guess I probably don't have much credibility putting lol in my sentences anyway)

TED: Ideas Worth Spreading - This is a site where 18 minute videos of people with billions of dollars and crazy ideas come together. Lots of out-of-the-box new ideas that you'd never think of. The videos load really fast too, since they have so much money running the site.

Also, the list is in alphabetical order, so when it gets really big you know where to find a link.

Internet Vigilante

The world is an unforgiving place. Nevermind bending the law a little and trying to avoid the cops, now try avoiding everybody with a camera. Yeah, that's right, people now take pictures of you breaking the law and you can be ticketed. (Only in India, at the moment). The people taking the pictures range from angry, to bored, to self-proclaimed heroes of the law. Those who enjoy justice but didn't like the danger of being a cop or the work of being a lawyer.

Anyway, this gives way too much power to people, and I believe that people will be incredibly suspicious of one another. I imagine a few people who have taken pictures have probably gotten beat up already. And theres probably people who have nothing better in their lives then to angrily snap pictures of people on their cell phones for 2 seconds trying to give a number to the hospital for their son to take their mother to the hospital. Regardless, I think there will be many disputes and tickets over very little things. But I suppose it probably will force people to follow the law.

CK: Question 1

Remember to answer before reading mine!!!

1. Let us assume you met a rudimentary magician. Let us assume he can do five simple tricks--he can pull a rabbit out of his hat, he can make a coin disappear, he can turn the ace of spades into the Joker card, and two others in a similar vein. These are his only tricks and he can't learn any more; he can only do these five. HOWEVER, it turns out he's doing these five tricks with real magic. It's not an illusion; he can actually conjure the bunny out of the ether and he can move the coin through space. He's legitimately magical, but extremely limited in scope and influence.

Would this person be more impressive than Albert Einstein?

1. Yes. Real magic is beyond I.Q. even in a limited scope. Though I suppose Einstein's intelligence could be classified as magic. I don't really know a whole lot about him besides he was super smart or something. But Albert Einstein was within the scope of human power, his mind was limited by whatever tangible minds are limited by. The magician has achieved something possible by no other human, even if it is done to do nothing really impressive. But knowing where the stuff actually goes is a good question, does the magician know that? (Chuck Klosterman was unavailable for questioning so unfortunately my questions go unanswered).
Plus a bunny out of ether? World hunger solved, suck it vegetarians! Also, you better like rabbit meat. And free pets.

Chuck Klosterman

Chuck Klosterman is a.. writer. He uh, writes about american pop culture...screw it just click his name for the wikipedia entry lol. Yeah that's right, I'm not above lols in my blog posts. Maybe its not professional but it'll probably become professional later on. Otherwise all humor has to be like dry or sarcastic in writing since you have to be devoid of tone. So an lol lightens up the writing. Makes it so you know the writer is having a good time. You probably think I'm an idiot right now. Thats what I was thinking when I read it a second time.

Anyway he has these 23 questions that he "has to ask before he can love someone". That's not really what I think (maybe I'll make my own set of questions) but I think they are interesting nonetheless. There are some media based ones that I really have no clue to answer so I'm leaving those out. There are originally 23 questions in his book Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs: A Low Culture Manifesto. I highly recommend most of the book, as I don't really care for one of the essays seeing as I'm not big into american pop culture, and I recommend his other books. I haven't read them, but if they are anything like the first, then they are definitely worth the read.

I answered all the questions, but I'll post one or two at a time so people are more likely to answer them. I would enjoy comments! Believe me, I do want to read what you want to say, as long as it pertains to what I'm interested in. Thats how blogs work.

My answers should be invisible unless I forgot. Highlight over the big blank areas to see my answers, in case you don't want to be swayed when you answer. Actually that would be best. You should answer without looking at mine first, then we can see if our opinions overlap without knowledge of each other's thoughts. That's what you should do.

Question

OK reader person. Let me ask you a question. (Along with the originality question, there will probably be many posted on this blog. Comment people, comment).

If a person was born in darkness, and had only experienced darkness with no noise, images, or even touch (let's assume they are floating in space), would they have an imagination?

Highlight the area below to see my speculation.

I always seem to consider the religious buffs in these questions, and I guess it didn't really seem like a religious question until I said empty space. Because apparently, thats where God would have been. He had nothing and then he thought of some random stuff, I guess. Or did the big bang have a resultant 'divine' thought side effect? That seems kind of possible I guess. If everything was at one point, perhaps that one point was aware of itself and when it blew up God just stayed there. (Probably freaking out.) Regardless! Would a person stuck in the room have an imagination. I guess if you are religious you have to say yes to this question.

I, on the other hand, say no. If a person has no concept of light or color or touch or anything then how could they possibly expect it? Consider a person who is blind their entire life. Do they understand color?

Misc News

Mattress police. Seemingly fake news report about couple falling through roof. OK that's all I've got.

Seriously that second news story has to be fake though. They spell numerous things wrong plus who makes an affair part of the news that isn't a celebrity one? And who would publicly announce that they had sex with someone besides their fiance? Especially someone not that attractive?

Misc

Good to see no one but me posts around here.

Its late at night, or early in the morning depending on how you look at it. Not really sure what I'm thinking right now, I'm kinda brain dead but thought I'd type something up for you fine folks to waste your time reading.

Its getting light out. Its like 5:50 AM. I realized today that my motto should be "Everything has a story". And I thought to myself the responses that each person in my life would have to this sentence. I suppose most of them would challenge me. "Oh yeah, how about this frog over here?" (Assuming we are standing outside, and the person is perceptive enough to properly identify a frog). "Well," I would begin. I would probably pause, and maybe they would get a little defiant, but patience is key. "See, its mother didn't care for it a whole lot, which is why its all alone. And its father was abusive, see the dark spots on its back? Bruises. Looks like it sold its (already lacking) soul for a stork's mouth, but can only inflate it with the emission of a obnoxious noise.." I don't really know what I'm talking about now. I'd really need the visual. See the frog move, you know? Then I could tell you about its personality and stuff. The way it moves would tell me very important information about its uprising.

Theres probably something out there that would take me a little while to think of a story about. Notice, there is nothing without a story. It had to start somewhere, or its got to have some motivation behind it or something associated with it. Everything is connected blah blah.

I don't exactly have the endurance to think of another story so that's all I will post for now. Good...day.

News July 27th 2010

Hello. Let's see whats on the news today.

Personal: Been playing games. Wasting my life away. Description needs no more than 50 words.

Horoscope: Your life is even more exciting than usual today -- which is saying quite a lot! You may want to ring up distant friends or acquaintances to get them in on the action, as it might not last long.
Yeah that sounds like today. I'm looking up my horoscope on the internet, if my day was more exciting that usual I wouldn't know that my horoscope even predicted it.

News: Blah blah blah BP, blah blah blah Obama, etc.

Here we go. 55 lab monkeys released from test lab. How does something like that get on the news? Wait, rescued. I'm guessing the news reporter was one of the monkeys? She kinda looks like it. If you watch it for anything, watch it for the picture captions. It shows a monkey in a cage and says "Monkey Madness!" because that really conveys sympathy. I was gonna pass a joke playing with the phrase "monkey business" but I see the news has beaten me with ridiculousness, definitely not the last time.

Tortured? Is that what labs do? What if they were curing AIDS? A few monkey casualties so that people's genetilia don't have to suffer seems like a small price to pay. But I'm not a monkey. And it seems like they would be making more AIDS than less if they had monkeys in cages...

Who seriously gives a damn about the monkeys!?!?!? We have people starving all over the world and someone drives 2000 miles to save a group of monkeys??? I guess its only me who thinks this place is absurd.

Maybe the monkeys LIKE the cages? I guess I should be very concerned over the 55 monkeys psychological status. Not to say thats not awful, but c'mon, there are more pressing issues at hand in the world.

Eh, check fark for some funny news. This post didn't really have a lot of substance. See ya next time.

As an addendum, mark May 21st 2011 on your calendar. Apparently, its when Christ is coming back.

Love

Tackling a subject like this on my 7th-odd blog post?? Whaaat? Ha well I wrote it for one of the countless confused guys on the subject of love. Here were his questions and my answers. Enjoy and such.

0. Taking anyone's else's opinions of love as your own will only serve to confuse you further. Love is different for each person. You can only learn about love by learning about primarily yourself. Once you love yourself, and truly do, can you understand a love for another, and your capability to love other people. Loving yourself is a journey only you can take.

(Personally, though I think those words are true, it sounds like a bunch of mumbo jumbo to me. I never really thought about it, but I'm pretty sure I love myself. Its like you'll never be happy if you keep asking yourself if you are. Sometimes, it just happens.)

So with that in mind, I'll just go ahead and tell you my responses. They might help you realize something about yourself. At the end I will tell you the best way to find love.

1. So what is love? (No thanks to any dictionary.com or urbandictionary.com definitions!)

1. Like I said, love is different for all people. To someone, its may be the strongest feeling ever felt. To me, its a total devotion to another soul without hesitation or regret. To put someone else before yourself all of the time, even if that means self-sacrifice. Not to sound pompous, but I believe this to be the ultimate form of love and I believe teenagers who are naive do not understand this love entirely, so they use the word as they please, which I don't think is entirely...right. But to each their own.

2. So is there difference between like and love? How so?

2. Yes lol. Love is devotion, like is attraction. Attraction to personality, looks, interests etc. Wanting to spend more time with that person. Love, devotion to health, future, happiness. Its like passing the barrier of your own self-interest to put their interests first. I believe thats when you love somebody.

A. How long does it take for somebody to truly love somebody? Or in other words, for example, is saying “I love you” after dating for only several months too short?

(who puts a letter in a numbered list??)
A. No I believe you can love someone immediately after even seeing them. It wouldn't be a mature love I don't think, but I think its possible to develop a true love fairly quickly. I think if you had a good idea of what it is, it would be possible to love someone within the first night you met them (coitus not included). But chances are it wont be a real love.

3. Can one person love more than once?

3. I'd like to say yes, but I wouldn't really know. I think a person's idea of love can change over time so that each time they "love" in a sense its a different kind of love. I believe its harder to love again when your love for someone has matured very strongly, but not impossible. I think that depends on your willpower more than anything, and your faith in the person you use to love. Theres just way too many factors in that.

4. A psychological research describes the following about sexual attraction; people usually like each other when they have a lot of similarities. Nonetheless, a lot of movies portray couples that are totally opposite, yet with a happy ending. Even though some two radically different people may want to date each other because they are attracted to “the aspects they don’t have”, 70-80% of them end up breaking up once they date each other. So, what do you think?

4. Don't mix science and love. Its very depressing.

5. Do you have a “type or style” of a guy that you would have a crush on?

5. No I don't have a type or style of a "guy" I'd have a crush on lol, but girls, sure. I don't know if every guy is like this, but for me it changes with the people I spend time with. So I guess I'm attracted to personality? Don't know. But the more I spend time with a person I get along with well, the more I enjoy their physical uniqueness - body type, smile, height, dimples, clothes, makeup, you name it. Though initial attraction is important. But I think a lot of girls are attractive, and over time I would find them even more so, simply by spending time with them.

6. Is long-distance relationship too cruel?

6. Cruel...? I think it depends mostly on the people and their thoughts on the situation. If you tell your significant other that long distance is okay and then cheat on them, that's definitely cruel. But if each person wants to save themselves for the other, then its the opposite of cruel, but certainly difficult. Deciding on long-distance is a personal preference thing.

7. Do you think guys tend to think more simply about girls than girls do about guys?

7. Hahaha. Maybe. I don't really understand the question, but if you're thinking simply as in terms of they just want one thing from girls, then that goes both ways. There are all kinds of girls and guys that think differently about the opposite sex and I don't really think there is a stronger tendency of complications from one or the other. That's a personality/IQ kinda question I think.

8. What would be some good, clean reasons for somebody to break up with another that would work perfectly for both a guy and a girl without any conflicts afterwards?

8. Without any conflicts lol. Sexual incompatibilities? Heh. No but really, that, and maybe a mutual feeling of the relationship not working out. Ex, if they like each other but realize they can't spend days together without arguing, I think it would be possible to break up without either party feeling bad. Distance is another reason, but that gets kinda complicated. That's some more personal preference I guess, I mean some girls let you get away with farting in front of them and some don't. Some will be perfectly okay hanging out with you after a relationship and some will hate you. It happens, theres really no foolproof way about it.

9. What do you think about guys in general?

9. Guys are cool I guess lol. For the most part, guys and girls want the same thing when it comes to love - to find someone else that has the same idea of love as they do and that will reciprocate the love they give them in more or less the same manner. There are all kinds of girls and guys with all kinds of preferences and opinions.

Okay so now that you read all that you probably want to know the best way to find love, and I'll tell you. Stop looking for it. Yeah its really that easy. Just stop looking for it. Love will find its way to you. You get your life in order and you get happy then the rest will follow. Before you realize it you won't be confused anymore and you'll be with a woman that you find more beautiful than anything in the world, and you won't think twice about it.

Thanks for reading.

Originality

Think about the word "original" for a moment. Think about the concept of "originality". What does it mean to you? Is it possible? What is original? Purely original? Really think about it.

I'll post later.

Evolved Hippies

I haven't made any posts lately. Mostly because I feel like a tool having a blog. I imagine all bloggers to be bored housewives with no meaning to their lives or crappacino sippers that sit in a cafe all day mooching off of the wireless they offer. They're evolved hippies. Its like slowly hippies have adapted to our modern lifestyle, but have still kept up their "free spirit" and "creative thought" or whatever. But instead of Jimi Hendrix concerts, now we have blog maker get togethers and online video streaming. And mocha conferences or something. Whatever they do. And I imagine those bloggers still wear sandles from time to time. They changed into crocs or whatever rubber monstrosity off-brand rotten cheese shoes they wear.

The word "blogger" is frighteningly close to "hippie" even. Theres consonants, and vowels, and a double consonant in the middle. Blogger is like hippie level 18 or something. It turned white and stars spun around it and now they wear capris instead of flowery skirts (non-gender specific), and they've replaced their peace sign necklace with an iPod or iPad or iP.O.S.. They probably still don't shower.

This post wasn't even supposed to be about hippies or their new form, bloggers. It was supposed to be something though, and I guess that's what I got.

Oh by the way, no offense to those blogging housewives I mentioned earlier, unless you call your family a circus. Or you own a blog thats dedicated to your cat. Then I mean offense. There is no apology involved there.

The point is, I can't imagine theres a lot of people like me that have blogs. Or if there are...they are probably private for just a few friends and family. Because that's what I'd do.

In other news...apparently I am an imposter. There already exists a Kingdom of Joe on blogspot, and when you google Kingdom of Joe it comes up instead of mine. I'd post the link, but I have a thing against endorsing my new arch enemy. He's some 'modern asian', and what I mean by that is basically a japanese pop rock enthusiast who designs their hair in various spikes and comb overs (something I thought was a last resort for old men until emos showed up. I wonder if they thought of that on their own, or maybe one of their mothers combed their hair over and it was a bit too long and then the gel kinda wore out and it went down over his eye and then to be rebellious, because he hates dressing formally, he left it there. And he was probably wearing a black suit or something. That's the origin of the emo style). So anyway, his blog is called the same thing. Check it out if you speak japanese or chinese or nagasaki or jaundice or whatever that guy speaks. If its even a guy.

I didn't really realize how slanderous I was against other types of people. Eh, you learn something new every day.

So maybe I'll post some writing up later. Takes forever for me to type nowadays. I think I've got carpal tunnel or something. My fingers move slower, I can watch them. Man, I've got to stop this, the blog isn't supposed to be one pointless complaint over and over. Well, maybe it is. But with humor, not calling for sympathy. You might ask why I didn't just delete the sentence instead of typing more to explain why it shouldn't be there. That's a good question, and to answer it I would say to prove a point. I suppose there are so many things that I have to say in my blog to get them over with so I can actually write with substance. Its like anything new, you've got to screw up some to realize how to do it right. If you do it right the first time, then you might think theres a better way, even if theres not. Blah blah blah.

I'll watch the news or something and leave some commentary for anybody reading. I'm hoping that will be interesting.

Animations

Anthony Schepperd is a visually mind-blowing animator. If anything could describe drawing as "psychedelic", it would be this man's art. The above picture is from his animation "The Music Scene". You can click on his name above the picture to see his other videos on his personal website. I would recommend watching all of them.

His art style is complex, to describe it simply. Sometimes random, but with an underlying theme, animals and miscellaneous other bits of people and parts transform between fish and birds, coiling infinitely, cut smoothly into many blob-like rainbow parts. I don't really know if that formed a sentence, but that's basically what comes to mind when watching his videos.

If you are looking for some other animations, Aniboom is a pretty good site. They host annual contests on their website, so if you are an up and coming animator, you could get your name out, and if you are an interested viewer, you can see some really cool stuff. Its a huge site, now sponsored by some big name companies, so you know people put forth their best work. From that site I would recommend Solar, Sebastian's Voodoo, and Chaos Theory. The site also hosts Schepperd's Wail To God music video.

Den Brysomme Mannen

A movie I finished just recently. A bleak yet intriguing Norwegian movie. The premise seems a little cliche but is presented in a way that I imagine most film makers would avoid, as a boring, straightforward film. It advances slowly, but if you have the patience, it can captivate you. The pace of the film turns into suspense as you try to realize exactly what is going, as much of the movie seems to leave the viewer to think on their own. Something American movies don't normally do. Being slightly confused throughout the movie as to what each character was actually feeling was actually a nice surprise compared to most movies I have watched lately.

The display of the world he lives in and the development of the character is fantastic. Telling you what the story is about probably wouldn't interest you in watching it, but if you knew what emotions you would feel by watching the movie to the end, maybe would. You'll have to watch it with subtitles if you do, but the dialogue is minimal. One of the most uniquely sad movies I've seen in my life, and not in a Romeo and Juliet kind of sad, not like a Toy Story kind of sad, a new kind of sad, that might make you a little more grateful for what you have.

Dysgenics and 2112

This was actually a continuation of a previous post, but the thoughts were different enough to separate. Hence the multiple blog posts in a short period of time.

So I saw somewhere that machines will run everything in the future. It makes sense I suppose, anything physical could be done by a machine. So you've got to be creative. "And the meek shall inherit the earth". That phrase suddenly comes to light. Machines do our physical work and all humans have left to do is paint, or speak or write...anything machines cant do. We'll still have engineers, and architects. But physical workers? No need. Its a reversal of natural selection. If we can just get over the hump of people with lower IQ's breeding more than those of higher IQ. (getting over the hump, humping, get it? -_-)

I can't really say I'm totally against a cult like future. A big brother kind of thing. Scary thought. More on this later.

If you're looking for an amusing rendition of negative results on modern natural selection (as I like to call it anyway), then you should check out Idiocracy. The main actor shares his first name with me. A coincidence at best. A more vulgar, yet still very entertaining alternative is Joe Rogan: Live. That's a full stand up comedy video that's about an hour long, not another information page covered in words I'm sure you enjoy so much. He also shares my first name. Just coincidence, I'm certain.

Elisha Gray

Its still the same day as the last post. I thought I'd get myself started by posting some stuff. Mostly random references to other things that some people will get and some people won't. I am inspired in many ways by many different things and some of my writing comes out of this. I strive for originality, though I am probably not even close. Its kinda like Elisha Gray and Alexander Graham Bell - and many other just-too-late inventors. So even if I have created something genuinely unique, some guy that got to the officials just moments earlier could steal away my life's work. There's just too damn many people in the world. A person just as talented as Alexander Graham Bell gets his name forgotten in history because of the location of a patent office. How nice.

So what can you rely on? I hope that I have an interesting enough writing style that some dude/chick somewhere will pick me up and pay me to write stuff like this all day. And I probably could.

So I began this post with a completely different goal in mind...to enlighten you upon the first inspiration of this blog. Not what started this blog, no, that was from multiple sources. You see the catchphrase up there? "...to turn moments of previously acquired boredom into entertainment" or something. Its from a song. "Turn your tired moments into pleasure..." are the lyrics. They've stood out to me and I've finally made a use for them. And you saw my first link! I haven't even read that site and I probably won't. If you do, tell me if its good.

I'd give you a link to the song, but I still think its a little too early to let you create stereotypes in your mind about the blog. You could always google the lyrics if you're really that interested, in which case you'll probably keep reading a blog like this.

Beginning

Its uh, 12:27 AM on July 13th, 2010. I have started this blog after much deliberation and uncertainty. But here is where I will write any of my thoughts that I see fit for public viewing. Hopefully, this will also be a media/entertainment sharing site, where I will post websites I think were entertaining or games or stories whatever.

I'll have to begin by basically ignoring anything that I think about blogs. I've never started one because they seem horribly pretentious, but with the advancement of technology, I guess there's really no other way I can put myself out in the media to be noticed. I always feel like I should just be telling someone this, but I guess writing it down is easier? No offense to those significant in my life, but I can't imagine hearing me talk about blogs can really be all that interesting, yet here you are, reading this. Probably not being interested haha.

So this will be an archive of rants, of thoughts, stories, recent events, interesting websites or stories. Whatever. A bunch of crap that no one who doesn't know me would want to sift through, and only a little by those who do, only out of extreme boredom.

Beware, I will write for a long time. I'm not diagnosed ADHD but I have a tendency to jump around ideas. The only thing that stops me is knowing that my reader will be uninterested. See paragraph 2; reminding myself I don't care.

There won't be any links in the first post, I don't want people (ha, people, reading my blog. I mean person. And by that person I mean me) to be led one way or another about what content my blog will include. Any link to a game now will only hinder my chances of gaining an audience that has a disinterest and a belief in any negative stereotypes that they associate with games. A flash game on his first blog? Just another game junkie. Which I'm not really, it just happened to be what I was playing before I had started this blog, but its not worthy enough to share on a first impression. Now you're curious as to what I was playing huh?

I have noticed in my life of reading (something I don't do often enough), that a long piece of writing segmented into smaller paragraphs is easier to read and will be more likely to be read. I hope this is true.

This blog is not an attempt to be funny or original, it is not meant to be a biography in progress nor is it supposed to be an emotional outlet. Its just whatever I want to put on here.

Thank you for visiting. Have a wonderful time on my blog and feel free to drop me comments or emails or really anything.
